Some God of War mods have been genuinely beneficial. For example, one has allowed the game to run on Windows 7 and 8, opening the game up to those that are still using the older technology. Other mods have provided new perspectives, such as an increased FOV during the Baldur fight and a first-person perspective when controlling the Ghost of Sparta. However, one of the most popular mod types swaps Kratos’ character model out for something different.

While it has been entertaining to see CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas wield the Leviathan Axe, and being able to play as young Kratos in the 2018 game is plenty of fun, one of the weirdest mods keeps the normal character model for Kratos intact. However, it makes two distinct adjustments, both of which make the character look far stranger than usual. Twitter user @Speclizer_ shared footage of Kratos with massive eyes and a huge mouth, and many were stunned by the clip.
Perhaps the best thing about the bizarre mod is how @Speclizer_ chose to show it off. One of the most important cutscenes in the game sees Kratos revealing Atreus’ heritage, confirming that he is a god and his son will be as well. Overall, the scene is incredibly serious, with some powerful music playing in the background and Kratos clearly not wanting to discuss his past. When seeing the God of War’s eyes bulge out of his head and his lower mouth extend outward, though, it is hard to take the scene seriously.
Hilarious responses to the video were seen, with one gamer sharing a terrified version of Kratos in the comments and another posting a meme where Kratos throws away a computer like Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation. Clearly, the mod has made some gamers uncomfortable, and it is not too hard to understand why. Kratos’ large, extended jaw is placed below his normal mouth, giving him two mouths instead of one. The red tops to his massive eyes and the way that they move around with the scene makes them impossible not to look at, adding to the strangeness.
While it remains to be seen what other odd things God of War players will make, this mod will be tough to top. Still, the fact that it was created at all is hilarious, as is the fan base’s reaction to the redesign.
God of War is available now on PC and PS4.
