With such a disastrous launch, it’s no surprise that someone found another bug in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Specifically, a glitch in the remastered Grand Theft Auto 3 allows players to stretch their car to ridiculous proportions.

Reddit user stack413 discovered the bug and posted a clip of it on r/GamePhysics. If the player wiggles their car back and forth while driving, it causes the vehicle to stretch to absurd proportions. As the clip shows, it takes less than 30 seconds to morph the player’s small sedan into a glitchy, road-hogging behemoth.
It might be more accurate to say that stack413 rediscovered the glitch since it was present in the original Grand Theft Auto 3. However, that makes the Definitive Edition look even worse. It means that not only did Grove Street Games introduce new bugs, but the studio also failed to fix known, preexisting issues. Of course, that shouldn’t be surprising since the studio failed to remove certain unintended files for GTA: San Andreas, among other things.
The nonsensical bug left many commenters wondering how such a thing was even possible. It turns out that the car’s 3D model scales slightly when the player turns. It’s supposed to make the turn appear more natural and realistic. However, wiggling the car back and forth makes the game forget to scale it back down. Notably, the bug only exists with the car shown in the clip and a few other similar models. So, players can’t just hop into any vehicle and make it giant-sized.
Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, expanding cars aren’t the only time the poorly reviewed Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has appeared on r/GamePhysics. Another recent post shows a police car twirling through the sky after a collision. A second clip shows a jet crashing into the solid air above a suspension bridge.
A third sees a speedboat rocket off into the stratosphere before landing perfectly in a narrow canal. Browsing the subreddit for a matter of minutes also uncovers numerous other examples of The Definitive Edition’s malfunctioning physics engine.
Most of these glitches are funnier than they are frustrating. However, they serve to illustrate just how much of a disaster The Trilogy’s re-release has been so far. Then again, The Definitive Edition’s numerous other problems likely made that clear all on their own.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
