Dragons are some of the fiercest creatures in Skyrim. In fact, the main antagonist of the game is Alduin, a dragon prophesied to bring an end to the world. Throughout the journey, players encounter many of these beasts. While combat with these creatures can turn deadly, those that manage to defeat them are awarded a Dragon Soul. These can be used to unlock powerful Dragon Shouts. Recently, one player had an unusual encounter while collecting a Dragon Soul.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as lizardThenoob shared a video of an odd experience they had in Skyrim. The clip started with the player fighting a dragon on the side of a snowy mountain. After a few moments, they defeated the dragon using shock spells. Following its defeat, the beast plummeted to the ground, where it suddenly disintegrated. However, what happened next left the player shocked and confused.

After slaying the dragon, lizardThenoob walked up to where the creature had been a few seconds earlier. While they probably expected to see nothing, they found a dead cow on the floor. Unexpectedly, lizardThenoob began to absorb a Dragon Soul from what appeared to be the deceased bovine, adding to the confusion. Left unsure as to what had happened, they made a post on Reddit asking for help. “Is it a dragon, a cow, a dragon cow? I don’t know what’s going on here,” they said.

Fortunately, there were those on the Skyrim subreddit who explained the situation. Among the comments, one gamer had a theory. According to the Reddit user, the dragon disappeared because the player had used shock spells, which had the chance to turn enemies to ash. In addition, they noted that dead cows could sometimes be found at Dragon Lairs, and they pointed out that this one happened to spawn where the flying beast had died. As a result, it seemed like the dragon had transformed into a cow.

While this clip of a dragon and a dead cow is unique, it is not the only instance of a cow behaving strangely in Skyrim. Several months ago, another gamer made a cow turn to stone after punching it. As players continue to explore the far reaches of Skyrim in the weeks ahead, it seems inevitable that more odd encounters are soon to be captured in the game.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
