Treyarch studio design director David Vonderharr discussed Black Ops 4’s update plans during an interview with Game Informer. According to Vonderharr, Treyarch is already prepared to deliver “constant updates” to the game in an effort to keep the game fresh and to provide a fair playing field for its players. In fact, Treyarch will put an emphasis on responding to player feedback and changing the game accordingly:
Vonderharr explained that the development team has what it needs to be able to make swift adjustments to the game once player feedback starts coming in. Treyarch isn’t simply waiting around for feedback, though, as the team has apparently already considered potential additions and changes to the mode, including adding new A.I. enemies for players to contend with.
Black Ops 4 has a lot of work set out for it in order to compete with existing Battle Royale mega-hits. Gamers playing these titles have become accustomed to frequent, rapid-fire updates that keep the experience fresh and interesting, which will also be a must for Call of Duty. Blackout may be at a slight disadvantage when compared to PUBG and Fortnite, as Blackout will launch with only one playable map and a limit of 80 players per Blackout match versus the maximum of 100 in both PUBG and Fortnite.
Call of Duty’s take on Battle Royale games does have unique twists of its own, of course. The latest Blackout mode trailer features pilotable helicopters, which aren’t available in PUBG or Fortnite at this time, as well as the ever-present threat of zombies encroaching on the fight that will force players to focus on more than just taking down other players.
As the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta has just begun for PS4 players, Treyarch may begin making adjustments to the way the mode plays before the game is officially released. Gamers who want to start offering feedback for the title can participate in the beta now through September 20th.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on October 12th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
